Our Story
Established in 1969, The Sunny began with a simple but powerful mission, to ensure every young player who trained during the week had the opportunity to take the field on the weekend. That inclusive spirit of “giving everyone a go” remains at the heart of the Club today.
In 1974, the Club found its home at Biggs Field, proudly named after founder and current patron, John Biggs. As the Club grew in size and reputation, it entered Queensland’s premier senior competition in 1989 and soon celebrated its first Australian representative, David Giffin, who played in the 1996 Rugby World Cup.
By the early 1990s, it became clear that the Club’s role extended well beyond sport. In 1994, a visionary master plan was developed in collaboration with Brisbane City Council to transform the Club into a vibrant hub for community, sporting and cultural groups in the Sunnybank area

Our Growth & Facilities
Recognising the need for modern, inclusive facilities, the Club committed to a long-term development plan in partnership with Brisbane City Council and the Mimosa Creek Master Plan.
After five years of planning, approvals and financing followed by 12 months of construction, the vision came to life. The Club also adopted a new trading name from Sunnybank Community & Sports Club to The Sunny to reflect its broader community focus.
Today, as The Sunny, we continue to evolve while staying true to our roots offering a welcoming space where sport, community and culture thrive together.
